Building with Nurses for Nurses: Unveiling our Nursing Suite

Building on March’s launch of Chart Chat for Nursing, today we're excited to introduce Nursing Summary and Ambient Flowsheet Documentation. Together, these three capabilities meaningfully advance our single system of intelligence providing end-to-end support across an inpatient nursing shift.

Built For Nurses, by Nurses

We started by listening, not building. Our Ambience nursing suite was co-designed with frontline nurses, nursing leaders and in-house clinical AI team — and has been validated by months of research, observation and iteration in real-world settings.

Together, we identified the biggest challenges nurses face and iterated closely to ensure our solutions deliver meaningful value. While most nursing technology is solely focused on documentation, and although important, our work together revealed a more fundamental problem: nurses are drowning in context, not just documentation.

Rather than creating separate tools for separate tasks, we extended our system of intelligence to support nurses throughout their entire shift.

  • Nursing Summary — Ambience delivers a complete clinical and psychosocial picture of every patient so nurses can start every shift with the critical context they need. Summaries include the hospital course, major events, barriers to discharge and a shift handoff report.

  • Chart Chat for Nursing — Chart Chat allows nurses to ask plain-language questions about their patients' care, like “Help me explain the plan of care in 5th grade English” or “Why are the LFT’s elevated?” Leveraging chart-aware reasoning, it retrieves and synthesizes notes, policies, medications and diagnostics with full clinical context to get nurses what they need at the bedside in seconds.

  • Ambient Flowsheet Documentation — Ambience captures the narrated patient assessment into structured flowsheets, eliminating manual data entry. Because recorded assessments are structured and searchable, this powers richer clinical reasoning within Chart Chat and more complete shift handoffs.

Together, these features work like an integrated AI nursing teammate, built on the same chart-aware foundation that powers Ambience's inpatient platform.

The Growing Complexity of Nursing Care

Nursing has always been one of the most demanding roles in healthcare — but today’s headwinds are particularly strong as health systems continue to face staffing shortages, rising patient acuity and increasing workforce turnover.

As experienced nurses leave the profession, they take years of institutional knowledge with them. And as new nurses step into increasingly complex care environments, they carry greater responsibility earlier than ever before. And through all this, the amount of information and documentation nurses need to synthesize across their patients continues to grow.

Nurses routinely spend up to an hour at the start of a shift piecing together information spread across disparate sources to gain a full understanding of each patient’s needs, status and care plan. And more information is often needed at multiple points throughout each shifts. This creates the significant cognitive burden that prevents nurses from delivering their best care — and it’s why solving for documentation alone won’t help.

With the right context, nurses gain clarity, confidence and time back in their day. Their patients benefit from more informed and present caregivers. And health systems gain a workforce that is better supported, more engaged and better empowered to deliver exceptional care at every step without getting left behind.
